Age 76, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 12, 2004. He was born in Kaukauna on November 6, 1927, son of the late Ervin and Edith (Pontow) Weber. On June 10, 1948 he married June Alger in Kaukauna. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Jake served during World War II in the United States Navy in Guam. He later became a member of the American Legion Post in Sherwood. He worked his whole life at Thilmany Pulp and Paper and retired in 1989 after 45 years of employment. Jake was a founding member of the Brickyard Fishing Club. Jake enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at his cabin on Boulder Lake. After retirement, Jake’s hobbies included gambling and making sturgeon spears. Jake was a faithful member of Christ the King Lutheran church in Sherwood.
Jake is survived by his wife, June; his children: John (fiancé, Sherry Kutchenriter) Weber of Menasha, Mike “Rocko” (Jolene) Weber of Stockbridge, Alan (Sue) Weber of Stockbridge, Tammy (Mark) Johnson of Appleton, Kevin (Kristy) Weber of Sherwood, Joe (Carrie) Weber of Stockbridge; grandchildren: Val, John, Jodi, Cory, Wendy and Robbie Weber; Amy (Eric) Schalk; Jamie (fiancé, Eric Plate) and Chad Weber; Amber and Megan Ruffing; and Kiara Weber: great grandchildren: Alexis and Serena Schalk; brother; William “Butts” (Kathy) Weber of Appleton; sisters: Jean Smith of Appleton, June (Elmo) Steinke of Menasha, Donna (Dick) Frakes of Neenah and Phyllis (Sam) Hendricks of De Pere; daughter-in-law, Lollie Weber of Kaukauna. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jake is preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Sherwood, with Rev. Bill Schroeder officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday, June 15, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Portland Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Homberg, the staff at Chilton Affinity Hospice and the Stockbridge First Responders for their compassionate care. Further, a special thank you to Jake’s relatives and friends who had given so much of their time and assistance.
A memorial fund in Jake’s name is being established for Christ the King Lutheran Church, Sherwood.
