Passed away peacefully after a brief illness early Friday morning, May 9, 2003 at the home of his daughter, Sharon VanRoy. John was born on October 10, 1910 in Mackville, Wisconsin. John enjoyed the simple things in life; a home cooked meal prepared by his wife or daughters and was especially fond of desserts. He looked forward to taking afternoon rides out to the country, especially to visit his son Don on his farm in Bear Creek. He liked to attend Farm Progress Days and liked looking at different farm equipment. John loved to dance especially polkas, waltzes, and the Polish Hop. He followed many bands all over Wisconsin. He would attend dances a couple of times per week until his wife lost her hearing three years ago. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. John will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other family members and friends.

I needed the quiet, so He drew me aside.
Into the shadows where we could confide.
Away from the hustle where all day long,
I hurried and worried when active and strong.
I needed the quiet, though at first I rebelled,
But gently, so gently my cross He upheld,
And whispered so sweetly of spiritual things.
Though weakened in my body, my spirit took wings.
I needed the quiet, no prison my bed,
But a beautiful valley of blessing instead:
A place to grow richer, in God to hide,
I needed the quiet, so He drew me aside.
