John Anthony Erchul, Ph.D., age 65, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. John was born on March 28, 1950, in El Paso, Texas, to the late Dr. James and Harriet (Maslowski) Erchul. He earned his Ph.D. in Education and was a longtime advocate of literacy programs. John and his beloved Westie, Watson, were long-time friends. He was also an avid baseball fan.
Survivors include his brothers, James (Nanette Dahms) Erchul, Eagan, Minnesota, and William (Ann Schulte) Erchul, Raleigh, North Carolina ; his nieces and nephews, John Nickasch, Sarah Nickasch, Nicolette Erchul and Anthony Erchul; and his aunt, Jean (William) John. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Nickasch.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial has been established in John's name to benefit the Fox Valley Literacy Council (130 E. Franklin Street, Appleton, 54911).
