Age 86, passed away at Grand Horizons in Appleton on Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was born in Manitowoc on May 28, 1923, the son of the late William and Edna (Mittnacht) Kurth. John was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On August 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to Genevieve Matczynski. They enjoyed 63 years together. He graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Civil Engineering and started his own architectural firm, retiring in 1985. John was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, the Green Bay Packers, and vacationing in Door County and Florida.
John is survived by his wife, Genevieve; daughters: Susan (Ron) Matta of Mundelein, IL, Mary Jo Hannemann of Appleton, Carol (Steve) Otten of Milwaukee, and Patricia Kurth of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren: Kathy, Mike, Amy, Andrew, Leigh, Jenny, and Jack; three great-grandchildren: Kate, Sarah, and Evan; and sisters: Doris Geigel, Jeanette Fidler, and JoAnn Hoyer. He was preceded in death by his brothers: William Jr. and Paul.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.
The family would like to thank the staff at Theda Care at Home Hospice and Grand Horizons for their compassionate care.
A memorial fund in John's name is being established for Theda Care at Home Hospice and Alzheimer's research.
