Age 46, died at Cherry Meadows after a battle against cancer on February 22, 2003. He was born in Clintonville on December 20, 1956, son of Elroy and Elaine (Ebert) Mehlberg. On February 21, 1981, he married Lynn Rohloff in Cecil, Wisconsin. Joel was a letter carrier for the Post Office for 10 years. He was very active at Christ the King Lutheran Church. His church activities included being a president of the church council, member of the Senior Choir and Praise Band, Christian Education Teacher, active in planning and building the new edition at Church, past president and member of the AAL Branch #5799, and acted as a mentor of youth at the church and Little Chute Middle School. Joel was a past president and member of the Little Chute Parents Ball Club. He was a coach for the Little Chute High School Girls Softball and Summer Softball Program. He enjoyed watching sports at Little Chute High School, and was a vocal Packer fan with the Sunday Packer Group. Most of all, Joel loved to spend time with his close family and many friends.

Joel is survived by his wife Lynn; two children: Lisa (Matthew) Dix and Stuart Mehlberg; parents: Elroy and Elaine Mehlberg of Marion; sisters: Charlene (Bruce ) Breitenfeldt of Tigerton, Patricia (Thomas) Frederick of Chippewa Falls, Jan (Gary) Krueger of Marion, and Debra (Dennis) Desens of Clintonville; brother, Timothy (Carol) Mehlberg of Marion; inlaws: Melvin (Janet) Rohloff of Cecil, Joan (Kevin) Ainsworth of Shawano, Marcia (Ted) Paffrath of Owatonna, MN, and Mark (Linda) Rohloff of Cecil.

Joel is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Lulu Ebert; paternal grandparents, Fred and Anna Mehlberg; and a godfather, Oscar Mehlberg, and numerous aunts and uncles.

The celebration of Joel’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2003, at CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 S. Washington St., Combined Locks, with Pastor Steven Nelson and Pastor Bill Schroeder officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place this Spring.

The family expresses a very special thank you to Dr. Swanson and his staff at Martha Siekman Cancer Center, the nurses and volunteers at Theda Care At Home, the staff and volunteers at Cherry Meadows, members of Christ the King Lutheran Church, and all family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, gifts to establish the Joel Mehlberg Memorial Scholarship at Little Chute High School would be appreciated.

“Joel, you touched many lives and made a difference to your family and friends. You will continue to live on through those you have touched. Though your time on earth was short, you accomplished many great things. You will always be in our hearts. Your eternal life will be perfect!”
