Joan M. Friestrom

Age 80, died Sunday July 29. She was born November 12, 1920, to the late Walter and Emma (DeRoeck) Dudy in Norway, Michigan. Joan married Gerald Friestrom on July 4, 1946; he preceded her in death on July 21, 1998. Joan attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, and graduated from the School of Dental Hygiene at Marquette University in Milwaukee. She worked as a dental hygienist for 35 years until her retirement. Joan was a lifetime member of the American Dental Hygienist Association, the Fox Valley Wisconsin State Dental Hygienist Association, Ladies Elks Club #337, Appleton Gallery of Arts and the Fox Valley Rock and Mineral Club (President 1992-93).
She is survived by her daughter Denise (Gary) Wischer of Sun Prairie; her son Richard Friestrom of Menasha; five grandchildren, Stephen Jones, Deidre Jones, John (Tammy) Friestrom, Matthew (Stacy) Friestrom and Jennifer (James) Olsen; eight great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Helen (Donald) Wendt, Bette (Merton) Cooney, Edith Lux and Louise Dudy; and her beloved Yorkie, Miss Muffett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother, Walter Dudy, and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Friestrom.
A Memorial Service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton, with Pastor Thomas A. Part officiating. Friends will be received on Thursday at the Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Norway, Michigan.
A memorial is being established in Joan’s name.
