Age 81, passed away peacefully Friday, January 26, 2001 following a brief illness, with her family at her side. She was born April 13, 1919 to the late John and Marie (Vander Logt) Vermeern in Kimberly ,WI. Joan married the late Edward C. Polzin on November 24, 1945.
Joan was a loving and courageous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Her courage, acceptance, love of family and “life is good” attitude was an example to all who knew her.
After raising her children, Joan worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill for over 20 years, retiring in 1983. After retiring, she enjoyed her time with family and grandchildren
She is survived by her four children, Rebecca Porto; Scott (Joann) Polzin, Monica (Jeffrey) Meier, Reed (Marty) Polzin, her fifteen grandchildren, Lisa (John) Egan; Julie, Edward, Erica, Gretchen, Molly and Rachel Polzin; Timothy, Sarah, Elizabeth, Martha Meier; Abigail, Courtney, Amanda and Michael Polzin; one great grandson, Henry Egan; six brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Bruehl, Teresa Brittnacher, Gertrude (Egbert) Tingley, Delores (Donald) Popp, Henry Vermeern, Margaret Zornow; her four sisters in law, Margaret Vermeern, Shirley Vermeern, Thelma Polzin, Velma Polzin; and very close friends, Helen and Ken McLellan.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Vermeern; six brothers in law, Mark Bruehl, Clifford Brittnacher, John Zornow, Frank Polzin, Karl Polzin and Alfred Polzin; sisters in law, Olga Meyer, Nora Schultz, Enid Hoppe and Delores Schmalz.
The Funeral Liturgy will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street with Fr. Don Zuleger officiating. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 PM until the time of the prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home and again on Tuesday at Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
