Age 76, passed away at Appleton Medical Center on Sunday, December 31, 2006. She was born in Wausau on October 25, 1930, the daughter of the late Fred and Rose (Meinert) Schmitt. Joan graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan in 1948 and was one of the first women bank tellers at the Bank of Sheboygan. On August 4, 1951 she married her husband of 55 years, Elroy Heling, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sheboygan. Joan was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church since 1962. Joan liked to golf and bowl. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her husband, Elroy; children: Mark (Jean) Heling of Grand Chute, Pamela (Dennis) Lehmann of Grand Chute and Paul (Leighann) Heling of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Andrew (Monica) Heling, Amanda (Fiance, Troy) Lehmann, Adam Lehmann, Christopher Heling, Joshua Lehmann and Samuel, Anna and Natalie Heling. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Lowell and a sister, Blanche (Gilbert) Keller.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Ave., Appleton, with Rev. Daniel Thews and Rev. Paul Brinkman officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, January 4, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers on 2 South at Appleton Medical Center, for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Faith Lutheran Church is being established.
