Age 81, passed away Friday, February 8, 2002 at the Appleton Medical Center. He was born in the town of Center on December 3, 1920, son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Mueller) Werner. On January 4, 1945, he married the former Germaine Gerrits at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom; she survives. For over thirty years, Jerome was employed by the Neenah Foundry, retiring in 1986. He was well known for his woodworking skills and many friends and relatives will cherish the things he made for them. His family meant the world to him, and he always took the time to be certain they knew of his love.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of fifty-seven years: Germaine Werner of Kimberly; a daughter: Darlene (Larry) Hansen of Greenville; two grandsons who he affectionately called “his boys”: Jeremy Hansen and his fiancee Rachel; and Travis Hansen and his special friend Brenda; three sisters: Marcella (Clarence) Schwahn of Kimberly; Doris (Elton) Lorenz of Nichols; Evelyn Krueger of Appleton. Jerome is also survived by a special niece: Anita (Chuck) Durand of Mountain Home, Idaho, who made her home with Jerome and Germaine for a time. He is further survived by Germaine’s brothers and sisters: Bob (Millie) Gerrits of Appleton, Don (Lillian) Gerrits of Kaukauna, Eugene (Lois) Gerrits of Appleton, Clarice (Frank) Islinger of Appleton, Roger Gerrits of Gresham, Vernadine (Jim) Welch of Little Chute, Darlene (Lee) Romenesko of Little Chute, and Elaine (Don) Evers of Little Chute; a brother-in-law: Earl Van Handel of Little Chute as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leona (Al) McClone, Germaine’s parents John and Geraldine Gerrits, Germaine’s step-mother Loretta Gerrits, a brother-in-law Wally Krueger, and a sister-in-law Audrey Van Handel.
The funeral liturgy for Jerome will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, February 11, 2002 at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, directly at the church from 3:00 PM until the hour of the liturgy.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the medical staff at 2-South at the Appleton Medical Center for your wonderful care. Each of you is so very special, and we know that Dad could have been in no better hands.
Words cannot express the gratitude that we feel for Nolan Gnewuch, whose dedication to our family, whose commitment to frequent visits and prayers, whose special help during the decision making, and whose most gentle manner made the our recent days bearable. Thank you so very much Nolan. We will always treasure the time you spent with us.
