Vergene "Jeanie" Krause, age 91, went home to heaven on Monday, November 18, 2024. Jeanie was born July 27, 1933, in New London, daughter of the late Arthur and Myra (Huebner) Winkler. On November 29, 1952, she married Roman J. Krause, Jr. in New London. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Prior to starting a family, Jeanie worked at AAL but left to become a full-time mom. After the kids were grown, she returned to work as the baker at Fox Valley Lutheran High School for many years. Here, the students fondly called her the "bread lady." Her bread was THE BEST. She also looked forward to her time at Camp Bird each summer where she worked as the head cook for nearly twenty years.
She was a faithful and longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and enjoyed working as a server at the Appleton VFW for Friday night Fish Frys and banquets. She was also a volunteer at the Bargain Garden thrift store. She was so busy and always on the run, sometimes it was hard to find her!
She is survived by three children: Leanne (Keith) Stoop of Appleton, Tim (Lori) Krause of Crystal, MN., and Jan (Mike) Van Zeeland of Neenah. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye: Tyler (Erin) Stoop, Darren (Traci) Stoop, Camryn (Tyler) Krause - Ferris, Ross (Courtney) Van Zeeland, Shay (Mike) Olig, and Paige Van Zeeland. There are also eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister: Kary (Leon) Sasse.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Romy, a son James Krause, a brother Vincent (Loretta) Winkler, a sister Ardyce (Harvey) Kreitzman, and in-laws Eugene Krause, Robert (Joan) Krause, Shirley (Steven) Crossman, and Marion (Donald) Bork.
The Christian Funeral Service for Jeanie will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at St, Matthew Lutheran Church, located at 129 S. Mason Street in Appleton. Rev. Jon Kuske will officiate and interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Visitation is planned for Wednesday morning, directly at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at the Meadows at Touchmark. The care and kindness shown to mom, even when her "sassy days" became more frequent, and her smiles waned - you touched our hearts because you always saw hers. We will never forget your kindness.
