Jeanette M. Mauel

Age 90, died Monday, November 22, 2004 at a local nursing home. Jeanette was born in Appleton on Christmas Day of 1913, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lorig) Gerend. On May 10, 1937, she married Ambrose Mauel at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna; he preceded her in death on October 27, 1990. Jeanette was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna where she served on the Altar Society and also helped with funeral meals for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and traveling, and will be remembered by many as an avid, intelligent, and knowledgeable football fan.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter: Mary (Bob) Handel of Kimberly; two grandchildren: Dave (Roxanne) Handel of Greenville and their children Janel Zimmerman and Collin Handel; and Lisa (Jon) Piette of Combined Locks and their children Kyra and Matt Piette; a sister: Sr. Rose Gerend of Manitowoc; a brother: Herbert (Katie) Gerend of Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law: Cordell Mauel of Appleton. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ambrose in 1990, brothers Norbert (Gert) Gerend, Joseph (Herta) Gerend, and Elroy Gerend; and sisters Olive (Jim) Blackburn, Adelaide (Walter) Doty, and Frances Gerend.

The funeral liturgy for Jeanette will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM, Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Combined Locks. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Parkside Care Center for the wonderful care they showed Jeanette during her stay. Thanks also to Elaine Laux, Jeanette’s roommate and companion. Your friendship was treasured more than you know.
