Jean M. Swick

March 10, 1935 — February 11, 2020

Jean Swick, age 84 of Appleton, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Cherry Meadows. Jean was born in Appleton on March 10, 1935, daughter of the late Clarence Daelke and Elda (Meyer) Lautenschlager. Jean was a 1953 graduate of the Appleton High School and for many years worked as a secretary at various places, Appleton High School, Sears & Roebuck Credit Central, Peace United Methodist Church, and the Midway Clinic.

She always said the best thing she ever did was to marry her high school sweetheart, Earl “Butch” Swick on October 23, 1954. And look what happened as a result! The couple raised a family and then lived on the lake – it was like a slice of heaven. How lucky! Butch preceded Jean on September 24, 2009. Jean loved being with family and friends, fishing, swimming, reading, and playing Shanghai Rummy.

Jean is survived by five children: Julie (Don) Hammen, Terry Sue Vander Wielen, Ken (Jackie) Swick, Connie (Steve) Towlerton, and Karen Kuba (fiancé, John Stevens). Her grandchildren are Christy, Carrie, Andy, Craig, Dana, Sarah, Amy, Wade, Courtney, Graham, Faye, Krystal, and Amber. There are also seventeen great-grandchildren, a brother: David (Brenda) Lautenschlager; a step-sister: Jean Gilson; a brother-in-law: Richard (Margie) Swick, and other in-laws that include Mary Ann Swick, Marilyn Kamps, Jacqueline (David) Vandehey, Jill (Tom) Haufe, and Jim Gavaert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Edgar Lautenschlager, step-mother Beatrice Daelke, granddaughter Kimberly Swick, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral service for Jean will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at First United Methodist Church, located at 325 E. Franklin Street in Appleton, with Rev. Rose McCurdy officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton and again at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Jean was blessed for many years with many helpful neighbors and many dear friends – Ann Leonard, Caley Powell, Howie and Ellen Schneider, Wayne and Allys Rudisill, Jan Boldt, Jan Luyster, and everyone who graciously gave her rides over the years, as well as her First Friday Friends. She always felt blessed to have all of you as part of her life.

The family would like to extend their thanks to everyone at ThedaCare At Home, especially Lorraine and Claudia, Becky with Valley VNA, as well as the staff at Cherry Meadows. We will never forget the love and kindness you shared with our entire family.
