Jean K. Riley

December 29, 1944 — March 12, 2019

Jean (Schmidt) Riley, age 74, entered her heavenly home on March 12, 2019, at Cherry Meadows in Appleton, Wisconsin. Jean was born December 29, 1944, to her late parents Albert and Christine Schmidt in Clintonville, Wisconsin, and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1963. She married late Larry Riley on July 6, 1968, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Jean worked at George Banta Company for more than 30 years.

Jean loved the outdoors and built a cabin with her husband in Northern Wisconsin where they spent most of their free time hunting and spending time with friends and family. In 2001, her loving granddaughter donated a kidney to Jean that allowed her to live an active life with family and friends for 18 more years. Her family and friends will always remember her great storytelling and fiery personality.

Jean is survived by her sister: Sandy Gunther; her daughter: Tari (Charles) Parsons; five grandchildren: Nicole (Scott), Derek, Joshua, Adam and Chad; four great grandchildren: Laura, Melissa, Isabelle, and Araih; one great-great-grandchild: Sophia; and too many special nieces and nephews to name.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Larry; her parents: Albert and Christine Schmidt; one daughter: Debbie; three sisters: Shirley Wilke, Doris Rohlfs, and Elaine Miller; four brothers-in-law: Russell Wilke, Peter Rohlfs, Don Gunther, and Lloyd Miller.

The memorial service for Jean will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran, 601 E. Glendale Avenue in Appleton, with Pastor Daniel Thews officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather directly at the church on Monday, April 8, form 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Jean and her family would like to make everyone aware of how important it is for people to donate life and would like to thank UW-Madison Transplant program for all of the special care they provided all of these years. Thank you also to the Hospice at Cherry Meadows for their loving and compassionate care during Jean’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
