Age 82, died on Saturday, February 10, 2007. Jean was born on May 13, 1924, in Gillett, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gwynne and Alice (Meles) Smith. She was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Jean taught in Oconto County rural schools, and also in Edgerton, Gillett, Merrill, and Kaukauna.

Jean is survived by her husband, Arthur Gandt; children: Tammie (Kevin) Schwantes, Scott Gandt; granddaughter, Kathryn (Mike) Wegner; great-granddaughter, Kylie; brother, Clayton (Barb) Smith; sister, Nancy Smith; and brother-in-law, Donald (Betty) MacSwain. Other survivors include nieces and nephews: Randy, Wendy, Robin, Kevin, Darrell, Louise, Jeanne, Mary, Jim and Jon. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Allen; and a sister, Gail.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Peace United Methodist Church, 2300 Wisconsin Ave, Kaukauna, with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Gillett, Wisconsin.
