Formerly of Kaukauna, passed away on Friday, 5 October 1 at Sunrise Medical Center, in Las Vegas, after a brief illness. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of Las Vegas for the past 26 years. She was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and possessed a B.S. in Nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and a M.S. in Health Science Administration from the College of St. Francis. Janis worked for almost forty years in Obstetrics and Labor and Delivery Nursing. One of her greatest accomplishments was to help bring several thousands of healthy children into the world. Mrs. Johnson worked in Labor and Delivery at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, at Salt Lake City, Utah hospitals, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, the 5th Field Army Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the former Women’s Hospital in Las Vegas, and the University of Nevada Medical Center in Las Vegas. Mrs. Johnson was a child birth educator and was famous for easing first-time parents’ jitters when they showed up at the hospital. Jan Johnson was the wife of Mr. Frank G. Johnson who preceded her in death in 1979. Frank was a meteorologist and USAF officer. Jan accompanied him on tours to K. I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan, The University of Utah in Salt Lake City, High Wycombe AFS in England, Offutt AFB in Nebraska, and JUSMAG in Bangkok, Thailand. Jan loved to travel overseas and to spend time with her close friends and family. Mrs. Johnson was active in Roman Catholic women’s groups, choirs and was an officer in the Las Vegas chapter of the American Association of University Women.
Jan is survived by her son: Brian A. Johnson and his family of Merrimack, New Hampshire; her daughters: Jaime A. (Johnson) Crowell and her family of Goldsboro, North Carolina; and Julie J. Johnson of Las Vegas.
Mrs. Johnson was a very proud and supportive parent. She left three exceptional and talented children to make this a better world. A memorial service was previously conducted at St. Viator’s Catholic Church in Las Vegas.
A funeral liturgy will take place in her family church, HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna at 5:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2001, with Fr. Lawrence Gerend officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Johnson’s name to the American Red Cross to help with support with New York City and Pentagon humanitarian activities.
