Janice M. Sommers, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at her home. She was born on September 5, 1942, in Appleton, the daughter of Leo and Beatrice (Little) Gruber. Janice was united in marriage to Raymond Sommers in 1965, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 2017. She enjoyed shopping and casino trips, and dinning at Black Bear restaurant, formerly The Golden Basket. Janice will be remembered most for being very kind, compassionate, giving, and humble; never wanting for herself, only others. She was gentle and shy, except when watching a Packer game.
Janice is survived by her nieces and nephews: Kim (Mark) Berge, Kari (Kent) Werner, Jody (Anna) Werner, Donald (John) Werner, Laurie (Steve) Meunier, Karla (Bill) VandenHeuvel, Jodi Zemlock, and Cory (Wendy) Sommers; many great nieces and great nephews; cousin: Terri (Jeff) Miller; special friends: Greg Thiel and William Lemke; 2 sisters-in-law: Janice Lawson and Bonnie Sommers; a brother-in-law: Larry Kruzicki; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Janice was further preceded in death by two sisters: Karen (Donald) Werner and Betty Gruber; her father- and mother-in-law: Frank and Evelyn Sommers; 8 brothers-in-law; 2 sister-in-law; a cousin: Sharon (Thomas) Wichman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St., Menasha. Visitation will be at the chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, please bring a toy, book, or children’s coat to the service or make a monetary donation to Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her memory.
