Walker, Janet Rae (Selig)
Age 51 died in her home Monday, December 9th,2002 after a battle with cancer.
She was born September 26, 1951 in Appleton, Wi. The daughter of Florence (Klarner) Selig, Appleton, and the late Elmer Selig. Janet married Frank J. Walker on November 4th, 1972. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church ,Appleton.
Janet was a waitress at various restaurants in the Fox Valley for ten years. For the next
Twenty-two years she has been providing child care in her licensed home, Sunflower
Family Day Care. She was the third family child care home to become licensed in Appleton. Soon afterwards she became and has remained an active and vocal member of the local support group H.E.A.R.T. Family Child Care. Janet was one of the first to join the Wisconsin Family Child Care Association, (WFCCA) and was on their Board of Directors in 1985-86 and 1988-89. She Co-Chaired the 1989 WFCCA conference in Appleton and worked with the Conference Committee for the 1995 WFCCA conference. She presented workshops at some of the first WFCCA conferences and at University of Wisconsin Whitewater Early Childhood Conference in 1990. She has also held memberships in the National Association for the Education of Young Children, (NAEYC); the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association, (WECA); and the Valley Association for the Education of Young Children, (VAEYC).
Janet will be greatly missed by her husband of 30years, Son, Chadwick J. Walker
and friend Pam Larsen, Sun Prairie, Daughter, Caroline R. Walker and friend Scott Pelkin, Appleton, Brother , James Selig, Appleton, two sisters and brothers-in-laws Kathy (Gary) Donelson, Appleton, Wi ., Suzanne (John) Leathersich, Middleton, Wi., Sister-in-law Nancy Hacker, Appleton, nephews Mike Selig, Appleton, Nicholas Hacker Appleton, Nieces Dawn Davis, London, England, Cassandra Dewitt, Combined Locks, Kiley Davis, Rochester, Mi., Corky Leathersich, Middleton, Wi., Kristen Hacker,(godchild) Appleton,
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church at 11:00am.
Friends may call at the Wichman Funeral Home from 4:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday and after 10:00am on Thursday at the church until the time of the service.
The Walker Family would like thank her Nurse, Kelly Graham and all the
Hospice Staff. Kathy McCabe our close friend and neighbor. The good people of “H.E.A.R.T.” and all our friends for being there for her.
