Jane Annabelle Wrobel, 75, of Appleton, WI died at home after a short battle with lung cancer on Sunday, August 20, 2023. She was born July 22, 1948 in LaCrosse, WI, daughter of the late Stanley and Bernice (Ellingson) Mattison and became a child of God through baptism on March 17, 1955. Jane married Allan Wrobel on August 14, 1971.
Jane loved serving her Lord and was involved with many women’s ministry activities at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. She always made sure there was too much food on the table for family gatherings; enjoyed spending time watching her grandchildren participate in school and sports activities; doing crafts and playing cards with them and packing them snacks to make fishing even more fun. She could often be found outside making sure her flowers were watered and the bird feeders were full. She also enjoyed listening to or watching the Brewers (offering them lots of advice); listening to live music with friends; camping in state parks; times spent in Door County; and road trips across much of the United States.
Jane is survived by her husband of 52 years, Al, Appleton; sons, Derek (Sylvia) Wrobel, Greenville, Timothy (Dominique) Wrobel, Watertown; daughter Katie (Dan) Townsel, Appleton; ten grandchildren, Bella, Xander, Riley, Josephine, Liam, Sebastian, Paige, Evan, Brooklyn, and Milan; four sisters, Sharon Modahl, Minneapolis, MN, Marsha (Aaron) Alens, Onalaska; Lori (Michael) Fitzpatrick, La Crosse, and Gretchen Kelley, Lodi; brother, Michael (Donna) Mattison, La Crosse; brothers-in-law, Don Paul, Appleton, James (Leann) Wrobel, Onalaska, Ronald (Giselle) Wrobel, Eagan, MN; sister-in-law, Betty (Charles) Dye, Plymouth, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Stanley and Bernice (Ellingson) Mattison; three sisters, Mary Ellen Deringer, Gloria Engler, Marian Paul; brother, Gerald Mattison; parents-in-law, Lester and Esther (Beitlich) Wrobel; three brothers-in-law, Frank Deringer, Eugene Engler, and Walter Modahl; and a sister-in-law Peggy Mattison.
The Christian Funeral service for Jane will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 4:00 PM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, located at 129 S. Mason Street in Appleton. Rev. Jon Kuske will officiate and burial will take place at a later date at St. Peter’s Lutheran cemetery, Town of Hamburg (Vernon County) S803 County Rd K, Stoddard, WI 54658. Visitation will take place on Friday, directly at the church from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Foundation, Fox Valley Lutheran High School Tuition Assistance Fund, or Luther Preparatory School (Watertown) Music Center Building Project.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center and Moments Hospice for their compassionate care.
