Jane Greer Hathaway, 93, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Born on May 23, 1925, to James and Lillian (Miller) Greer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jane spent her childhood years living in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she graduated from high school. She furthered her education at UW-Madison where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She was a full-time wife and mother and took special pride in her children and grandchildren.
At UW-Madison she met the love of her life, Fred Hathaway. They were married on April 10, 1948, and settled in Neenah, Wisconsin, where they raised their family - daughter Sue, and sons Tom and Steve. She enjoyed traveling, taking many international trips with family and friends. When Fred retired, they moved south to Naples, Florida, and lived their final years together until Fred passed in 2004 after 56 years of marriage.
Jane was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed finally seeing them win the World Series after many years of prolonged cheering. She loved playing golf, tennis, and cards, spending countless hours playing Sequence with her grandchildren, as well as Hearts with friends. She excelled at Tournament Bridge, eventually becoming a Life Master. In her spare time, she cross-stitched numerous items that could be seen throughout her home. Most of all, Jane loved being with her children and grandchildren and sharing many activities together. A day at Grandma’s condo always started with her delicious coffee cake and then may have included a venture to the beach, the dog track, or Disney World. It often ended with a walk to Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream.
Jane will be missed by her children Sue (Dan) Hass of Algoma, WI and Steve (Elaine) Hathaway of Verona, WI; grandchildren Gretchen and Katie Hass, and Nathan, Craig (Bethany), and Sam (Ali) Hathaway; and great-grandsons Cole and Flynn. Preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy Thompson, husband Fred, and son Tom.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. until noon at Brewster Village, 3300 W. Brewster St., Appleton, Wisconsin. Private inurnment in Madison, Wisconsin.
