Jane Zima, age 71, of Darboy, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 after surviving ovarian cancer for over 14 years. She was born on May 28, 1942 in Johnson Creek, to the late George and Dorothy (Jones) Trachte. Jane was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek. She graduated from Johnson Creek High School in 1960 and UW-Whitewater in 1964, with a music education degree. Jane and Matthew “Matt” Zima were married February 3, 1968. They lived in Kohler, West Bend, Neenah and Freedom, before moving to Darboy in 1986.
Jane taught vocal music in the Kohler schools and elementary general music in the West Bend and Kimberly school districts. For years, Jane accompanied solo and ensemble students from the Freedom and Kimberly schools. She owned Fox Cities Truck Sales with her family. Through the years, Jane directed youth choirs at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Appleton. At Prince of Peace, she was a past member and chairman of the Worship and Arts Committee, was a member of WELCA, Esther Circle and the Soli Deo Hand Bell Choir.
Jane is survived by her husband, Matt; daughter, Lynn (Rob) Roehrborn and their daughter, Sophia Jane; son, Mark (Amy) Zima, all of Darboy; sister, Margaret (Jon) Lind of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Mary (David) Stangel of Manitowoc and Arlene Heller-Zima of Florida; aunts, Alice Bergman of Oconomowoc and Frances Bolger of Johnson Creek. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Richard Zima; uncles, Abert Bergman and Vern Bolger; cousins, Stephen Jones and Judy Hamele.
She welcomed the friendship of members of the Living with Cancer Support Group, the Ovarian Cancer Support Group, and the NEW Neuropathy Support Group.
The memorial service for Jane will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street in Appleton. Rev. Gary Nokleberg will be officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Prince of Peace Hand Bell Choir Fund or the Pastor's Discretionary Fund are appreciated. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
