Jan Karol Sedivy, 102, passed away on June 17, 2024, in Menasha, WI. Jan was born on July 8, 1921, in Joblonica, Czechoslovakia to Vaclav and Maria (Mueller) Sedivy.
Jan was a remarkable individual whose life journey was filled with accomplishments and adventures. He embraced education from an early age, earning a Doctorate in Technical Science and Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Vienna in Austria. Jan's thirst for knowledge and new experiences led him to immigrate to America upon completing his degrees. Despite facing the challenge of a new language, he persevered and his career took him to Patterson, New Jersey, Marquette University, and Appleton, where he made significant contributions in his field.
Jan married Ruth Irene Meyer on September 4, 1958. Jan found joy in pursuing a multitude of hobbies and interests. He was a skilled chef that was known for his culinary creations. Jan was an avid outdoorsman, and immersed himself in the beauty of nature, whether through his love for gardening and or duck and deer hunting. Jan was a world traveler, that captured the world around him through photography and was a devoted member of a local camera club. Jan leaves behind a legacy of hard work, passion for learning, and a zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jan is survived by Donna Bennin; Erica Bennin; Jason (Lisa) Bennin and daughter Hazel; Kelly (Brad) Hietpas and children Grayson, Brayden and Jackson; Tina Kemke and Carl Gerhke. Jan is preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Ladislav Sedivy.
A memorial service to celebrate Jan's life will be held on July 8, 2024 at Appleton Highland Memorial Park Chapel, 3131 N Richmond St, Appleton, WI at 10:00 AM, with internment to follow.
