James “Gramps” R. Krull, 93, passed away on January 21, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 12, 1931 in Nichols, Wisconsin to John and Luella (Gottschalk) Krull.
James married Virginia A. Wippich on June 11, 1955, together they enjoyed 69 years. Jim served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He worked at Appleton Papers for 42 years. Gramps enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Brewers, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling at their cottage on Augustine Lake. He also enjoyed listening to Polka music. Above all, Jim cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family remembers him fondly and will carry his spirit with them always.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, his children Joe (Doreen) Krull, Linda (David) Radtke and Lori (Kenny) Gossens; daughter-in-law Susan Krull; grandchildren Eric (Lindsay) Krull, Michael (Julie) Krull, Staci (Jesse) Van Dera, BJ (Leigh) Bogenschutz, Bailee (Thomas III) McNair, Charlie (fiancé Kaella) Radtke and Sam (Ashley) Radtke; great-grandchildren Max, Jack, Halle, Emerson, Alexis, Cailyn, Casen, Adelyn and Emma; sister-in-law Shirley Krull, brother-in-law Robert Moeller; godson Donnie Smith and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Steve Krull, son-in-law John Bogenschutz, sister Audrey Moeller and an infant sister, brothers Stuart (Alvina) Krull, Dickie Krull, Jack (Dorothy) Krull, Terry Krull, Rodney (Ruthie) Krull; sister-in-law Sylvia (Keith) Krull, Mary Ann (Norbert) Smith.
A funeral service for Jim will take place on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 11:00 am at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St. in Appleton, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service, followed by military honors. Interment will take place at Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jim’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
The family would like to thank the staff of ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton and ThedaCare Hospice for their compassionate care of James.
