Age 60, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Appleton Medical Center following a brief illness. Jim was born in Appleton on October 8, 1942, son of the late Richard and Helen (Van Beek) Dietzen. He had been employed as a truck driver for Universal Paper (UniSource) until ill health forced his retirement. Jim was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Many will remember Jim as a longtime board member and charter member of the Harrison Athletic Association. He loved sports of all kinds, especially softball and Green Bay Packer football.
He is survived by two brothers: William (Joyce) Dietzen of Freedom and their children Bill Dietzen and Bonnie Dietzen; and Mick (Maggie) Dietzen of Kimberly and their son Mike (Laura) Dietzen; a sister: Ruth Westenberger of Appleton and her children Deana Hassell and her fiancé Jeff Kenjesky and Greg Westenberger; Jim is also survived by two grandnephews Tyler and Aaron Dietzen and by a grandniece Autumn Hassell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral liturgy for Jim will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2525 E. Lourdes Drive in Appleton with Fr. Harold Berryman officiating. Members of William Verhagen Post #60 of Kimberly will provide military memorial rites at the church. Interment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 – 8 PM and again Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.
