James L. Ertl
Age 77, of Grand Chute, died Friday, November 28, 2008, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
He was born April 26, 1931, in Appleton, the son of the late Louis and Mary (Kohl) Ertl. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served four years during the Korean Conflict. On June 13, 1953, Jim married the former Audrey Wassmann of Appleton. He was employed by Zwicker Knitting Mills, where he started as a machine operator and retired as vice-president after 43 years. Jim was very active in the credit union movement, he served as Zwicker Credit Union president for ten years and the Outagamie Chapter of Credit Unions for one year. Jim was an avid Packer fan, loved softball, golf, and card playing.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Audrey; their children, Rebecca (Loren) Regan, Shorewood, and their children, Caitlin and Matthew; Michael (Anne) Ertl, and their children, Jacob, Dustin, and Allison; and Michelle (Paul) Coenen, and their children, Clayton and Laura; his brother-in-law, Norman (Sallie) Wassmann, Appleton; his sister-in-law, Pearl Ertl, Appleton; nieces and nephews; and a very close family friend, Margaret “Susie” Sosinske, Oshkosh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Ertl, his sister and her husband, Margaret (Peter) Geerts, and a sister-in-law, Dolores Wassmann.
The funeral mass for Jim will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2008, at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., with Father Larry Abler, OFM Cap. as celebrant. Visitation will begin Monday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass. He will be laid to rest at Appleton Highland Memorial Park. A memorial fund is being established by his family.
