Age 88, passed away at Appleton Medical Center on Wednesday, December 10, 2008. He was born in Chicago, IL on December 8, 1920, the son of the late John and Mary (Jordan) Egan. On May 23, 1953, he married his wife of 55 years, Mary McKay, in Chicago. Jim served as a Sergeant in the United States Army in Europe during WWII from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945. Jim graduated from DePaul University with a degree in accounting and worked for Kimberly Clark as a supervising accountant from 1954 to 1986. Jim enjoyed activities such as hand ball, golfing with Mary and during league play at Reid Municipal, and bowling. He was a gentle and kind man, always fair. Jim's wife and family were always his #1. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Mary Beth Egan of Portland, OR; James Jr. (Joan) Egan of Milwaukee, WI; Daniel J. (Kate Glasner) of New York, NY; and Kathleen (John Quimby) Egan; grandchildren: James J. Egan, III, Kerry Egan, Catherine Egan and Parker Quimby; and sisters-in-law: Sue and Merriam Egan. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Catherine Ames and Helen Gould; and brothers: John and William Egan.
The memorial mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family extends a special thank you to Theda Care, Home Instead, and the staff at Appleton Care Center for their compassionate care and dedication.
