Jim Appelt, age 88, passed away at the Appleton Medical Center on Saturday evening, July 18, 2015. Jim was born in the Lincoln County township of Scott, on September 21, 1926, son of the late Rev. Theodore and Dora (Engelbrecht) Appelt. When Jim was very young, the family relocated to the Chicago suburbs where Jim attended high school and technical college. On February 16, 1952, he married the former Mary Holstein in Oak Park, Illinois, and enjoyed sixty-three years of marriage with her. The couple was blessed with four children, all sons. Early on, Jim worked mostly in television and radio repair. From 1959 until his retirement, he was employed by both Picker X-Ray and Siemens as a sales representative for radiology equipment. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed working on vintage radios.
His survivors include his wife: Mary Appelt of Appleton; three sons: Paul (Katherine) Appelt of Belleville, Wisconsin; David Appelt of California; and Thomas (Emma) Appelt of Appleton; three grandchildren: Rachel, Matthew, and Elizabeth; and a brother-in-law: Herman (Hertha) Holstein of Oak Park, Illinois. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dan Appelt, and a brother Ralph (Dorothea) Appelt.
The Christian Funeral Service for Jim will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, Highway 47 North, in the town of Center. Rev. Micah Martin will officiate, and Jim will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Algoma.
