Age 73, died Tuesday morning, June 19, 2001 at the Rennes Health Center following a long illness. Jim was born February 28, 1928 to the late Henry and Adeline (Shabo) Buss in Appleton, where he was a resident all of his life. Jim served with the U. S. Navy prior to the Korean Conflict and with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served the City of Appleton on the Fire Department for 29 years, retiring in March of 1983 as a Captain. Jim was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and the Retired Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. (Managan) Buss, to whom he had been married for 51 years; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Linda Buss, Appleton; Steve and Denise Buss, Town of Center; Mark Buss, Appleton; Kelly Buss, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Eric and Adam Buss, Shelly (Mike) Doering, Trina, Cory and Amanda Buss; a great granddaughter, Alexa Doering; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Pauline Buss, Appleton. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Willard Buss and Donald and Mildred Buss.

The Funeral Service for James will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 22, 2001 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, with Reverend Ralph C. Waack officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 – 7 pm and on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Rennes Health Center for the care they gave to Jim.
