J. Kermit Dean, DDS

Age 85, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 at St. Elizabeth Hospital with his family at his side. He was born December 6, 1916, in Royalton, WI, the son of Ralph and Florence (Murdie) Dean. He lived in Oshkosh through his high school years.
Kerm joined the Army Air Force in 1942, having served in Puerto Rico, British Guiana, and Iwo Jima in the Twentieth Air Force. He was discharged as a Tech Sergeant in November 1945.
He graduated from Marquette University Dental School in June 1951. With the utmost dedication to his patients, he practiced Dentistry in Appleton until his retirement in 1983. He was past president of North Central Orthodontic Study Club, and of the American Academy of Orthodontics for the General Practitioner. He was past president of the Outagamie County Dental Society; a member of the Appleton Medical Center Dental Staff; life member of Knights of Columbus; the Appleton Elk’s Lodge, and a member of Sons of the American Revolution.
In 1935 he met Ruth Sullivan of Milwaukee, and there ensued a loving relationship that lasted 67 years. They were married April 27, 1946, at Gesu Church in Milwaukee, and celebrated their 50th Anniversary April 27, 1996. Many happy years with family and friends were spent at their cottage on Archibald Lake where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing.
Kerm is survived by his wife Ruth and two sons, a daughter-in-law and six grandchildren. Dr,. Jeffrey Dean, New Berlin, WI,. and his children Lauren, Adam, Katelyn, Collin; Bill (Patty) Dean, Appleton and their children Scott and Kristi; a brother, Dr. Dale (Joan) Dean, Berlin, WI and their children Mark (Julie), Rochester, MN; Rob (Debbie), Berlin, WI. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Nancy Sullivan, Milwaukee, and her daughters Lynn Kealey, Canada; Cece (Wil) Bauer, Milwaukee; Gail, Milwaukee; Patrice (Curtis) Avery, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dr. Ben Sullivan, Milwaukee.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 12:00 PM (Noon) at St. Thomas More Church with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the time of service also at the church. Entombment will take place in Highland Memorial Park.
