Irma "Mickey" Defferding, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2004 at her home for two years, Brewster Village. She was born on January 29, 1918 to Gustie and Felix Mignon in Appleton. On March 17, 1938 she married Ory E. Defferding in West Allis, Wisconsin, and they moved to Appleton in 1947.

Mickey is survived by her daughter Judy Higgins, Austin, Texas; her son, Wayne (Bette) Defferding, Appleton; four grandchildren: David Oakland, Cincinnati, Ohio; Christopher Oakland, New York, New York; Katie (Brian) Schalk, Menasha; and Brian Defferding, Menasha; a sister, Evelyn (Murrel) Miller, West Bend; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ory in 1995, and four sisters and three brothers.

Mickey was a long-time volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary and St. Vincent DePaul. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1947 often helping with church dinners/luncheons and ushering with her husband Ory. In earlier years she loved to bowl and was on leagues with her best friends, her sisters. For years, the sisterhood continued, lending laughter, love, support, and craziness. She and husband Ory enjoyed many summers with sister Ev & brother-in-law Murrel at their lake place in Winneconne, where the family would often gather for summer fun and holidays.

Memorial services will be held on Friday December 10, 2004 at 2 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Friends may call from 1 PM until the time of service. A Memorial Fund is established in Mickey's name.

The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Lawrence Hall in Brewster Village who gave Mickey two quality years of life in her waning years. You are indeed special people, and we thank you for your gifts.
