Irene Lamers, age 78 of Appleton, passed away on Saturday evening, November 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Irene was born in Appleton on January 24, 1939, daughter of the late Clarence and Marie (Vanden Boogard) Kohl. She attended St. Therese grade school, Roosevelt Junior High, and graduated from Appleton West. On September 13, 1958, she married Gene Lamers at St. Therese; he survives.
For many years, Irene worked at the Kimberly High School. She loved shopping, craft sales, playing cards, visiting the casino once in a while, and travelling.
Irene is survived by her husband: Gene “Orangie” Lamers of Appleton; three children: Laurie Lamers, Mike (Cheryl Buelow) Lamers, and Lynn (Rocky) Wildenberg, all of Appleton; a granddaughter: Stephanie Lamers, and a great-grandson: Mason; seven brothers and sisters: Jerry (Linda) Kohl of Appleton, Bill (Rosie) Kohl of Appleton, Bob (Sue) Kohl of Appleton, Ethel Walbrun of Appleton, Patti (Patrick) Duffy of Milwaukee, Mark Kohl of Appleton, and Kurt (Debbie) Kohl of Appleton. She is further survived by Gene’s siblings: Jim (Ginny) Lamers of Virginia, Mary DuFrane of Kimberly, Carol Daul of Appleton, and Jerry (JoAnn) Lamers of Little Chute; and a sister-in-law: Denise Lamers of Kansas.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Gene’s parents: Clarence and Irene Lamers, a brother Allan, a sister Janice, and brothers-in-law Roger Walbrun, Denny DuFrane, and Tom Lamers.
The funeral liturgy for Irene will be held at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the 2nd and 4th floors of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, along with thanks you to Dr. Johnson and Dr. Koeper, and very special thank you to Dr. Scott for their exceptional care of Irene.
