Age 87, died on Friday, January 17, 2003 at Franciscan Care Center. Irene was born on July 16, 1915, daughter of the late Charles and Laura (Hanf) Holz. On November 7, 1936, Irene married Howard Holz, and they enjoyed over 57 years of marriage together, before he preceded her in death in 1993. Irene and Howard spent many years working on their farm, before retiring in 1981. Irene was a member of Community Baptist Church in Hortonville, WI. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Harold Jr.) Ort, Black Creek, WI; her brothers, Forrest (Irene) and Victor (Arlene) Holz, all of Appleton; her sister, Grace (Alfred) Krull, Kaukauna; 7 grandchildren, Calvin (Karen), Vernon, Roger (Beth), Wayne (Connie), and Steven (Angela) Ort; Karen (Daniel) Lynch; Diane (Dan) Mueller; and 12 great-grandchildren, Crystal; Heather; Rachel; Alicia; David; Amy; Ray; Joshua; Jacob; Alexander; Kristina; and soon to be, Baby Lynch. Irene was preceded in death by her brother, George Holz; her infant brother, Carl; and sisters-in-law, Sadie and Irma Holz. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, January 20, 2003 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Lary Long officiating. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Monday, January 20, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Unit 3 at Franciscan Care Center, for their loving care of Irene.
