Irene Manthey entered heaven on June 9, 2008, at the age of 95. Irene was born on March 23, 1913, to George and Bertha (Berg) Kremmer in Bangor, Wisconsin. She was baptized and named Irene Loretta Eva Hilma Kremmer. Irene received teacher training at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. She served as a Christian elementary school teacher in Bangor, Wisconsin, at St. Peter Lutheran School in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin and at First German Lutheran School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She also taught at Manitowoc Lutheran High School. Irene served the church as part of the support staff at Dr. Martin Lutheran College, and Martin Luther Academy in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. On June 26, 1937, Irene married Frederick A.E. Manthey in Bangor; he preceded her in death in November of 2003. Most recently, Irene resided at Greenfield Manor and attended St. Luke Ev. Lutheran Church in Little Chute, Wisconsin.
Irene and Frederick were blessed with six children: Miriam (Jerry) Gronholz of Appleton, Wisconsin; Elsa Manthey, and Muriel Manthey both of Little Chute, Wisconsin; Syda Reinhard of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; Gretchen (Mark) Boehme of Seminole, Florida; and Professor Marcus (Barbara) Manthey of Saginaw, Michigan. Their family was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Dawn (Jerry) Marowsky, Shelley Gronholz, Amy (Courtney) Meyer, Jennifer Boehme, Linae (Joseph) Terrana, Scott (Tracy) Reinhard, Joel Boehme, Katy (Frank) Jones, and Jessica (Dan) Hill. Another blessing was their sixteen great-grandchildren: PFC Zachary Smith; Eric, Lauren, Elisabeth, and Nathaniel Marowsky; Cassandra, Mikayla, Emma, and Lydia Meyer; Megan, Seth, and Zachary Reinhard; Logan Boehme; Maxwell and Sophie Jones; and Silas Hill. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister Elvera (Clarence) Murphy.
The Christian Funeral for Irene will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 16, 2008 at ST. LUKE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 705 Greenfield Drive in Little Chute with Rev. Ronald Szep officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee. The family will greet friends and relatives at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service.
Irenes life of Christian service and gentle friendliness will be missed by all who knew her.
