Age 94, passed away peacefully at St. Paul Home on October 16, 2003. Irene was born in Appleton on December 31, 1908, daughter of the late Adolph and Caroline (Maurer) Kranhold. On August 20, 1929, she married Lawrence Kroll at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton; he preceded her in death on November 6, 1995. Irene was a longtime member and past president of the Kaukauna Hobby Club, and enjoyed crocheting and knitting items for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church for many years, and at one time was active in the altar Society. She was also an expert cookie baker, and had that special gift of being able to brighten a difficult day. Irene will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family meant the world to her.
She is survived by to sons: Jerry Kroll of Kaukauna and his children: Randy (Lynn) Kroll, Kaye (Steve) Langer, and Kellyn (Tim) Wilson; and Don (Joan) Kroll of Kaukauna and their children: Doug (Barbara) Kroll, Mary Jean Kroll, Laureen (Tom) Loftus, and Kim (Tom) Haen; eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, a brother Bob (Mildred) Kranhold, a daughter-in-law Bette Kroll, and sisters Marie Kranhold and Rosella (Howard) Bowers.
The funeral liturgy for Irene will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 8:30 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in Irene’s name.
