Irene C. Meyer, age 100, of Oshkosh died Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Evergreen in Oshkosh. Irene was born on November 28, 1917 in Kaukauna to Arthur and Hattie (Haase) Schneider. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1935 and then Le Clair School of Beauty Culture in Milwaukee. She was married to John W. Meyer on September 24, 1938 at Emanuel Evangelical Church in Appleton. They lived in Milwaukee. In 1945 they moved to Manitowoc and lived there for 35 years. Irene was a teacher's aide at Benjamin Franklin School for 14 years. For many years she was a children’s Sunday school teacher. She also taught an adult Bethel Bible study course. When John retired, they moved to Laona, living on Silver Lake for 22 years. Irene moved to the Heritage (Appleton) in 2002 and then Evergreen in Oshkosh in 2015.
Irene enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She loved holding and playing with her “little tikes”. She assisted her family with painting (outdoor and indoor), hanging wallpaper, making quilts and braiding rugs. She enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as gardening, walking, ice skating and cross country skiing. She loved listening to others, and sharing her valuable spiritual insights. Christian radio enriched her life for many years.
Survivors include her children John (Susan) Meyer, Oshkosh; Marilyn (Dean) Lausche, Wausau; Kathy (Tom) Peterson, Janesville; Daniel (Kris) Meyer, Appleton; Tom (Tracy) Meyer, Appleton; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and her brother Jerry (Elaine) Schneider, Appleton . She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, John; her sister, Linda Haberman, sister, Esther Simons, and her brother, Jim Schneider.
The family is thankful for the love and support of the residents and staff at Garden Heights. A memorial to WRVM has been established in her name.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 31, at 2 PM at Evergreen, 1130 N Westfield St., Oshkosh. Pastor Lynn Kollath will be officiating. Friends may call at 1 PM until the time of services. The Wichmann-Fargo Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
