Irene Winter passed away early in the morning on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at a local nursing home. She had battled cancer only for a short time; she was 82. Irene was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 28, 1925, daughter of the late Herman and Bertha (Peters) Kelly, but was an Appleton resident for most of her life. In her younger years, Irene was a member of The Homemaker's group. She was happy to be a member of the Oneida Indian Tribe, where she had many friends and relatives. Irene enjoyed travel, looking for antiques, and visiting relatives. She also owned her own antique business for many years, and will be remembered as a fun-loving woman who always had an entertaining personality.
Irene is survived by a daughter: Patti (Tom) Kottke of Greenville; two grandsons: Nicholas Kottke of Appleton and Zachary Kottke of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Karin Lynn, and a sister Beatrice Schraa McCormick.
A reception to welcome family and friends will be held at the funeral home chapel from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. A memorial fund is being established in Irene's name.
