Age 86, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, June 6, 2005 at Good Shepherd Home. Ione was born on August 1, 1918 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Walter and Clara (Heimke) Herrmann. She married Alvin Dorn, Jr. on August 1, 1959. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2004. Ione was a graduate of UW Oshkosh and a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Honorary Society. She was an elementary school teacher in Rio, WI for 2 years followed by 38 years at McKinley School in Appleton, retiring in 1980. Ione was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she served on the Evangelism Committee for many years. She was also a member of the Eltergarten Group, the Rachel Circle, the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association and the Outagamie County Teachers Association. Ione will be greatly missed by her 3 step-daughters: Sandra (Jeff) Eggert, Appleton; Donna (Richard) Zimmerman, Black Creek; Diane (Dan) Friebel, Neenah; 5 grandchildren: Dawn and Jill Zimmerman; Jeff Eggert, Jr.; Jenny Blankenship; Brian Friebel; and 8 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 North Oneida Street, Appleton, with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Visitors will be received at the church on Thursday, June 9 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. As an expression of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.
