Appleton – Iona A. Badtke, 98, passed away on the morning of July 15, 2020, at Edenbrook Care Center. She was born on September 1, 1921, in Ripon the daughter of Avie and Alice (Weinke) Ludtke. Iona worked as a dental assistant for Dr.’s Johnson and Karel in Ripon before marrying Harvey Badtke on June 22, 1946. Harvey preceded her in death on June 1, 1988, after 42 years of marriage. The couple moved to Appleton in October of 1968, and Iona became a desk clerk at the Super Bowl in Appleton for over 21 years, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed traveling to many islands with her daughter-in-law, Adria, ceramics, and growing flowers. Iona was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #38, of Appleton.
Iona is survived by 2 sons: Ronald Badtke, Appleton and Robert (Adria) Badtke, Shiocton; four grandsons: David Badtke, Gary Badtke, Tim (Missy) Badtke, and Paul (Jenni) Badtke; 7 great grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Hope, Bryan, Aaron, Jake, and Owen; a brother-in-law: Gerald H. Lee; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Iona was further preceded in death by 2 sisters: Erna Kroll and Carol Lee; sisters- and brothers-in-law; and a niece: Lori Lee.
In accordance with Iona’s wishes, no services will be held. She will be privately laid to rest with her beloved husband at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
Iona’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Edenbrook, Units 1 and 4, and Tanya McDaniel with Compassus Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
