Age 77, died Tuesday evening, January 27, 2004, following a courageous battle with kidney disease. She was born August 5, 1926, to the late Anthony and Marie (Janssen) Van Gompel, in Little Chute and had been an area resident all of her life. Imelda had been employed as a store manger for Campbell Clothing Store until its closing. In her retirement years, Imelda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing bingo, visiting casinos, some travel and her pets at home. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Vicki Walker, Kaukauna; two daughters, Cheryl Vandenberg, Kaukauna; Susan Walker and her special friend, Gerald Zivkovich, Freedom; five grandchildren, Angela (Stephen) Snyder, Dayna Walker, Travis Vandenberg and his special friend, Ashley Janssen, Rory and Ali Gerow; a great granddaughter, Emma Snyder; Jason Quella, a family friend; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Jenny Schmalz, Darboy; Dick and Audrey Van Gompel, Little Chute; Marc and Mary Van Gompel, Gillett; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynda and Norb Weyers, Kaukauna; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Van Gompel, Little Chute. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Walker, to whom she had been married for 44 years, two brothers, Henry and James Van Gompel and two sisters, Regina and Josephine (Herbert) Lom. The funeral liturgy for Imelda will be held at 12:00 pm (Noon), Friday, January 30, 2004, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, with Father James Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am, Friday until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Appleton Medical Center, Kaukauna Dialysis Center and Cherry Meadows for their care and support to Imelda and her family and also thank Dr. Robert Ballard, Dr. David Koeper and Dr. Jennifer Schoening.
