Howard John Carlsen passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Friday, February 14, 2003 at the Franciscan Care Center in Appleton, WI. Howard was born on June 13, 1916 in Kipling, Michigan. He spent his childhood in Michigan with his father, grandparents and his faithful dog companions, all of whom he loved very much. Howard was an excellent student and graduated from Michigan Tech. in 1947, with a degree in mechanical engineering. Howard worked at Kimberly Clark Research and Engineering for 31 years. He met June Smith in high school. They were married on March 19, 1937 in Gladstone, Michigan. They had one daughter, Sharon. Howard and June enjoyed each other’s love and companionship for 65 years. They were avid travelers, and spent a great deal of time helping others. For many years, Howard was a member of the Appleton Kiwanis and the Board of Directors for the Appleton Foxes. He was happiest when he spent time with his family, especially his three granddaughters. Howard was a wonderful grandfather, father and husband. He will be forever missed by his daughter, Sharon Carlsen (Joseph Jochman); granddaughters, Carolyn Jochman (Thomas Edwards); Julia Jochman (Sean Marchant); and Kate Jochman. Howard also had many friends, and each one will miss his good humor and companionship. The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Jeffrey Verbeke officiating. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 18 from 3 until 6 p.m.
