Hilbert "Fife" Berthold Pfeifer, Jr.

Hilbert “Fife” Berthold Pfeifer, Jr. age 85, of Menasha, WI and formerly of Dodge Center, MN passed away on April 8, 2025. He was born on June 30, 1939, to Hilbert Berthold, Sr. and Gladys Mildred (Swenson) Pfeifer, in Bowbells, ND. He grew up on the family farm with his five siblings, graduated from Bowbells high school and earned his B.S. degree in Agronomy at NDSU in Fargo.

While working as an extension agent in Williams County, ND, he met Joyce Amsbaugh through a mutual friend. They married in 1962 and remained in Williams County for a time. They moved to Forman, ND where Fife worked as the Sargent county extension agent, and they began their family with Mark’s birth. The family moved to Minnewauken, ND, where Fife worked as the Benson county extension agent. The family moved to Fargo, ND where Fife worked for First National Bank, and the family expanded with Bradley’s birth. The family moved to Roseau, MN where Fife worked as the Roseau county extension agent. In 1977, the family moved to Dodge Center, MN where Fife worked as the area extension agent covering southern Minnesota. The family expanded again with Kyle’s birth. While living in Dodge Center, MN, Fife also worked for Production Credit Association until he later started his own business in Kasson, MN. He ran Pfeifer Tax and Farm Management until his retirement. Fife served several years in the North Dakota National Guard. In 2019 Fife and Joyce moved to Menasha, WI, close to son Kyle and family in Appleton, WI.

Fife had a strong Christian faith and was active in the church. In addition to family activities and maintaining their home, yard and garden, he enjoyed golf and was a member at the Dodge Center Country Club. In later years, he was also an active member of the Dodge Center American Legion.

Hilbert is survived by his wife Joyce; sons Mark (Denise) Pfeifer, Bradley (Marissa) Pfeifer and Kyle (Michelle) Pfeifer; grandchildren Stephanie (Brian) Thompson, Samuel Juhnke, Jacob Pfeifer, Jeffery Pfeifer, ShiShi Pfeifer, Elise Pfeifer, Annika Pfeifer and Julia Pfeifer; brother Norris (Rynnene) Pfeifer, and sisters-in-law Beverly Johnston and Ollie Pfeifer.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, his siblings Dwaine (Carolyn) Pfeifer, Dwight (Judy) Pfeifer, Gerald Pfeifer, Ella Marie (Jerry) Gustafson.

A memorial service to celebrate Fife’s life is planned for April 29th, 2025, at 11:00am at Wichmann Funeral Home, 1592 S Oneida St, Menasha, WI. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 10:00am until the service begins. Fife will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
