Herman Maes, age 94, passed away Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Appleton Medical Center. Herman was born in Kaukauna on October 29, 1912, son of the late Herman and Anna (Schlude) Maes. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 until 1945. On July 25, 1974, Herman married Pat Jansen Wolf in San Antonio, Texas at Fort Sam Houston. Herman was a member of the Knights of Columbus and in 1950 was the Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Kaukauna American Legion Post #41, and Electric City Post #3319 of the VFW. Herman retired from Thilmany Pulp and Paper after some forty years of employment. Herman was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna from 1932 until 1974, a member of Holy Angels in Darboy from 1974 until the present time.
He is survived by his wife: Pat Maes of Darboy; a daughter: Vonnie (Tom) Hooyman of Menasha and their children April and Jimmy; two sisters-in-law: Margaret (Paul) Maes of Seabrook, Texas and Barb (John) Kokke of Menasha; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Herman was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and by Pat’s parents Clarence and Emma Jansen.
The funeral liturgy for Herman will be held at 4:00 PM Friday at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Interment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery in Darboy. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the hour of the mass.
