Age 83, entered into eternal life on November 27, 2005, after a short illness. We was born on February 13, 1922 in New Ulm, MN to the late Julius and Emma (Dahms) Grams. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 4 years during WWII. He graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm in 1948. On May 21, 1948 he married Marian Petersen. He taught for 2 years at St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Kenosha, WI, and 8 years at St. John’s Lutheran School in Wood Lake, MN. In 1957, he moved to Onalaska, WI, where he taught and coached for 14 years at Luther High School. He also taught for 15 years at Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, retiring in 1987. After moving to Appleton in 1993 he taught at Fox Valley Lutheran High School as a substitute.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian; his daughter Constance (Dennis) Kunkel, Brentwood, TN; three grandchildren: Brian Kunkel, Brentwood, TN, Dawn (Shannon) Campbell, Knoxville, TN, Beth (Matt) Arens, Ainsworth, NE, and his great granddaughter, Allison Arens. He is further survived by five sisters: Florence Scharlemann and Irma Huhn, New Ulm, MN, Erna (Howard) Zorn, Albuquerque, NM, Arlene Buss, Huron, SD, Betty (Gene) LeVitre, Minneapolis, MN; two brothers: Walter (Shirley) Grams, New Ulm, MN, Richard (Shirley) Grams, LaCrosse, WI; one sister-in-law: Delaurice Grams, Scappoose, OR, as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Vanderwerf, brother, Edwin Grams, and three brothers-in-law, Ferd Scharlemann, Delmar Huhn, and Chester Buss.
Funeral services for Mr. Grams will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 530 W. Parkway Blvd. Appleton, with Rev. Mark Henke officiating. Committal Service and Military Honors will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 30 from 4 until 7 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9 until 11 a.m. directly at church. A memorial in Hep’s name has been established.
The family would like to thank Dr. Swanson and Dr. Krueger at Martha Siekman Cancer Center and also the staff at Theda Care at Home and Cherry Meadows Hospice for their care and concern.
