Age 82, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute. He was born on January 9, 1919, in Kimberly, the son of the late George and Cecilia (Vandenberg) Rooyakkers. On November 15, 1941, he married the former Joan Gmeiner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. Henry served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked for Kimberly Clark for 34 years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club and the Management Club. Henry was also a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and playing cards with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, their four children, Tom (Florence) of Phelps, WI; Barb (Ken) Freeman of Green Bay; Karen (Mike) Winius of Appleton; Jim (Pat) of Appleton; 13 grandchildren, Kim (Dan) Van Sambeek, Tim (Paula), Tom (Nicole), Bill (Adrianna) and Matt Rooyakkers; Jill (Darin) Kiester, Vicki (Larry) Talapa; Michael (Traci) Winius, Michelle (Jason) Sagorac, Kara Winius; Jeff, Nick and Jenny Rooyakkers; 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, George (Audrey) Rooyakkers of Hollandtown; Everett and Leo Rooyakkers both of Appleton; four sisters, Cora Ulman of Appleton; Mary (Dick) Van Lanen of Mountain, WI; Theresa (Ray) Bongers of Little Chute; Ceil (Ray) McCormick of Appleton. Henry is further survived by a brother-in-law, Howard Gmeiner of Appleton; two sisters-in-law, Helen Rooyakkers of Kimberly, Ethel Brockman of Appleton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Peter, Francis and Tony Rooyakkers and a sister, Bernadette Rooyakkers.

The funeral liturgy will be at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2001, at HOLY NAME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Kimberly, The Rev. Dennis Bergsbaken and Robert J. Vandenberg co-officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of mass. Military honors will follow the liturgy. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Parkside Care Center for the extraordinary care given to Henry during his stay.
