Age 81, passed away on December 11, 2002, at Appleton Medical Center. Henry was born in Rossmalen, Holland on February 7, 1921, son of the late Peter and Wilhelmina (Von Uden) Havinga. He served in the United States Army Quartermaster Corp in the South Pacific during World War II for 41 Months. After his service, he married Edith Jane Vanden Heuvel in Kimberly on May 14, 1947. He retired in 1983 from Appleton Paters (Locks Mill) as a pipefitter after 43 years of employment. Henry was active in his community as a lifetime member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, member of the William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion in Kimberly, and served as President of the Union for two terms and further served on other committees. Henry enjoyed woodworking, reading and traveling.
Henry is survived by his wife Edith, two children: Keith Havinga of Kimberly and his children Randal and Kristle , and Kay (Jim) Zaddack of Newport, MN and Kay’s children Gary(Roxann) Austin and Joe Austin; one sister, Betty Mc Falls of New Berlin; one brother, Peter (Mary) Havinga of Phelps; four sisters-in-law: Betty Havinga of Escanaba, Agnes Havinga of Kimberly, June Domer of Appleton and Pet Vanden Huevel of Appleton; and numerous neices and nephews.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Carnie and Gilbert Havinga; one sister, Katie Andrejeski; and two brothers-in-law: John Vanden Huevel and Orv Domer.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2002, at HOLY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Friends will be recieved at the Jansen Fargo Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., also at the funeral Home. The William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion will be conducting military honors at 6:45 p.m. followed by a wake service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Entombment will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family extends a special thank you to the Nurses at 4 North at Appleton Medical Center for their compassionate care. The family further thanks Dr. Whiteside, Dr. Wilson, Dr. Price and especially Dr. Ebben and his nurses Terri and Judy, for their outstanding care.
