Age 71, passed away Monday, January 12, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital following a long battle with heart and lung disease. Hank was born in Appleton on September 2, 1932, son of the late Henry and Genevieve (DeBruin) Van Schyndel and has been a lifelong area resident. Hank worked his entire career in underground construction. Hank loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his two devoted dogs, Maggie and Katie. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, and also had a passion for boating and entertaining. Hank was also a longtime and faithful member of Peace United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Lynn Van Schyndel of Kaukauna; five children: Steve Van Schyndel of Appleton; Tim (Rose) Van Schyndel of Freedom; Sandy (Steve) Huss of Kaukauna; Pat Heiting of Little Chute and her special friend Randy Van Hout; Amy (Alan) Hostettler of Kaukauna; thirteen grandchildren: Brad (Kristin) Van Schyndel, Ryan Van Schyndel, Kristi Van Schyndel, Leah (Adam) Daelke, Rebecca Van Schyndel and her special friend Ben, Michael Van Schyndel, Danielle Van Schyndel, Rachelle (Ryan) Hansen, Jared Huss and his fiancé Alisha, Amber Heiting and her special friend Josh, Brian Heiting, and Amanda and Alex Hostettler; three great-grandchildren: Lauren and Quinn Van Schyndel, Samantha Hansen, and a new child in the Daelke family is expected soon. He is also survived by a brother: Richard (Marie) Van Schyndel of Crivitz; a sister: Betty Dorman of Kaukauna; a sister-in-law: Donna Koski of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Van Schyndel and a brother-in-law Richard Dorman.
Funeral services for Hank will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at PEACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 2300 Wisconsin Avenue in Kaukauna with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Hank’s name is being established.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff on 2 South at St. Elizabeth Hospital, the staff in the Emergency Room, Dr. Jack Meyer, Dr. Brad Lauderdale, and Dr. Kenneth Geller, as well as their staffs for all of their kindness and hard work.
