Helen Lorraine Zoern

Helen L. Zoern, 82, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023. She was born on March 2, 1941, in Antigo, the daughter of Edwin and Edith (Jones) Duncan. Helen worked for 25 years at Shopko in Kimberly, retiring on September 20, 2002. In her early years she enjoyed bowling and dancing with her sisters and friends. Helen later in life loved thrift store shopping, rummage sales, trips to the casino, and car rides with Harry to Dairy Queen and McDonalds. She was hardworking, loving, compassionate, always giving of herself, and loved her Christmas decorations and of course Halloween; even holding an annual Halloween party. She had a favorite fur baby of 16 years, Mindy, who she adored.

Helen is survived by her significant other for over 40 years Harold Verkuilen; 2 children: Jodi (Kevin) Eisch and Chad Zoern; 4 grandchildren: Matthew (Julia) Eisch, Samantha (Jacob Gerhardt) Eisch, Megan (Tom Ferron) Eisch, and Kaylin Eisch; and a great grandchild on the way; siblings: Polly Watson, Kathy (Dewey) Forbeck, and Bill (Tammy) Lenzner; sisters-in-law: Shirly Duncan, Julie (John) Walburn, and Dawn DeBruin; special in-laws: Mary Sabel and Patsy Evers; special friends Jerry and Judy Smith; other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather: Ray Lenzner; 2 children: Kim and David Zoern; brothers: Eddie and Kenny Duncan; and a sister-in-law: Debbie Duncan.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St., Menasha. Visitation will be on Saturday at the chapel from 9:00 am until the time of the service. 

Helen’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Oak Ridge Gardens and the 7th floor staff at ThedaCare Medical Center, Appleton for their years of great care of Helen.
