Helen Wolfert, age 88, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015. She was born on January 4, 1927 in Stephenson, Michigan, to the late Donald and Wilma (Stanton) Collins. On June 1, 1946, she married Lawrence “Larry” Wolfert at St. Joseph Church in Oconto. Helen was a 60 year member at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton. She enjoyed her family, traveling out west with family, bus trips with friends, and bowling with the Senior Delites. Helen was a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Red Hat Society, the CFM (Catholic Family Movement), and the VFW Harvey Pierre Post 2778 Auxiliary in Appleton. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, playing and caroling around the piano, crafts, and watching the birds. Her family meant the world to her, and she looked forward to summers at the cottages and family Christmas celebrations. The visits from her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids were always precious to her.
Helen is survived by her five children: Mary (James) Merkes, Dennis (Sue) Wolfert, Rosie (Dave) Christensen, Karen (Scott) Wolfert-Georgeson, and Lori (James) Salzman; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brothers: Bruce Collins and Norman Collins; sisters-in-law: Kay Neta and Rita Reeves. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Larry Wolfert, brother Tom Collins, sister Judy Schuth, brothers-in-law: Clement (Angie) Wolfert, James Wolfert, Joseph (Colleen) Wolfert, and Freddie Reeves; sisters-in-law: Marie (Ron) Ernst, Joanne Collins, and Lois Collins.
The funeral liturgy for Helen will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2015 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street in Appleton. Fr. Bill Swichtenberg will be officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name. Online condolences can be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
