Helen Meyer was called home to Jesus’ side on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 86. Helen was born in the town of Ellington on October 15, 1919, daughter of the late Herman and Emma (Molotky) Kirchner. In November of 1940, she married Clifford Meyer; he preceded her in death in January of 2002. During Clifford’s military service in World War II, Helen worked at a local machine shop making parts for the military effort. Later she was employed by Russell’s Candy for nearly twenty years, as well as working in the food service department at Lawrence University in Appleton. She was a longtime and faithful member of First English Lutheran Church where she hosted the Monday night Bible Class for over twenty-five years.
Survivors include her children: Ronald (Diane Evans) Meyer of Louisville, Colorado; Nancy (Robert) Wittman of Green Bay; Claire (Gary) Gallant of Menasha; two special “daughters”: Tamara England of Madison and Jeanne Rhea of New Franken; eight grandchildren: Joel Meyer-England of Madison; Anna Meyer-Evans of Louisville, Colorado; Scott (Amy) Wittman of Green Bay; Keith Wittman and his fiancée Heather Detrie of Green Bay; Brent (Diala) Gallant of Mount Holly, New Jersey; Nikkohl Gallant of Shawano; Drew Gallant of Menasha; and Kirk Gallant of Menasha; two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Zachary Wittman of Green Bay; two brothers-in-law: Perry Thiesen of Neenah and Gerald Schommer of Florida; special nieces and nephew: Sunday (Don) Kislewski of Menasha; Charrie (Dan) Larsen of Neenah; Carlton (Nancy) Kirchner of Kaukauna; Dorothy (John) Meyers of Neenah; Bev Kirchner of Appleton; Ann Kirchner of Shiocton; and Paulette (Frank) Weaver of Arizona. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, brothers Alfred, Theodore, Carl, and Edwin Kirchner, a sister Bertha Thiesen, two sisters-in-law Jeanette Schommer and Tootie (Harley) Strobl, and a dear aunt Clara Vogel and her daughter Grace Vogel who raised Helen after the death of her parents.
Funeral services for Helen will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2006 at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 East North Street in Appleton with Rev. David Lyle officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service.
The family would like to offer a special “thank you” to the entire staff at Golden Homes who gave Helen not only wonderful care, but also their hearts.
Helen was blessed with many caring friends and neighbors. The family would also like to thank each and every one of them for their care, concern, love, visits, and dedication. You will never be forgotten.
