Harry M. Barkholtz, Jr.

Age 81, of Appleton, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at Cherry Meadows.
He was born March 16, 1927, in Appleton, the son of Harry and Lillian Rose (Madden) Barkholtz. Harry was united in marriage to Joan R. Schmidt on June 3, 1950, and they shared 58 blessed years together.
Harry served our country in the United States Army, he was a member of the 754th Tank Battalion, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, the Phillippines, and Korea. He was the Commander of the Menasha American Legion Post 152, and a member of the 40/et8.
Harry was a residential building contractor for many years before his retirement, and was a member of the Valley, Wisconsin, and National Home Builders Associations.
The Barkholtz's were charter parishioners of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and Harry was a very active, behind-the-scenes volunteer at church, instrumental in helping with fundraisers, picnics, and bingo. He was a member of the Xavier High School Board and volunteered at their annual Food Fair.
Harry was a member of the town of Menasha Lions Club, and later with the Fox Valley Lioness. He was also a member of the Palisades Baseball League, town of Menasha.

Survivors include his wife; Joan; his daughter, Joyce (James) Spaude, Fallon, Nev.; his sons, James (Jean) Barkholtz, Kimberly, and David Barkholtz, Menasha; five grandchildren, Lisa (Kenneth) Fosnot, David (Emily) Spaude, Sara (Kirk) Bell, Chad (Lori) Probst, and Emily (Gary) Lewis; there are four great grandchildren; and three special nieces, Angela Schmidt, Stephanie Pomplun, and Heather Pahl.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Roy, Thomas, and Ralph, and a sister, Kathleen Mock.

A Memorial Mass for Harry will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, with Father Gerald Falk as celebrant. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Military honors will be conducted after Mass.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution fund has been established in his name.

A special thank you to Fr. Gerald Falk, St. Elizabeth's, and Cherry Meadows for the exceptional care given to Harry and his family.
