Harry J. Hitter of Appleton passed away peacefully on June 17, 2006, with Marian Hitter, his wife of 47 years, at his side. He was born December 7, 1929, to the late Harry and Margaret (Hill) Hitter in Laona, Wis. After graduating from Crandon High School, he dutifully served his country in the Korean War.

Harry worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Appleton and Hortonville, until his retirement in 1990. He also was an entrepreneur. In 1967, he started Mr. Power Clean, Inc. and a pest control business, now known as Spider Be Gone.

He is survived by his wife, Marian (Hein) Hitter; his sons, Lee (Christy) Hitter, Ken (Suzanne) Hitter and Greg King. Surviving siblings include his sisters, Norma Surin and Gayanne (Lyle) Wickman; and his brother, Bill Hitter. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorrene (Mel) Johnson, brother-in-law, John Surin, and sister-in-law, Carol Hitter. He was also a beloved “Papa” to Kristen, Renee, and Brandon Hitter; Claire and Chloe Hitter; and Raven, Jesse, and Rachel King.

Harry was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, as well as Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and participating in his grandchildren’s lives. Cheering for Brandon at his many baseball games and tournaments was one of his favorite pastimes. Harry especially enjoyed the past six winters he spent with Marian at their home in Mesa, Arizona.

A memorial service for Harry will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, Appleton, with Rev. Daniel P. Thews officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Harry’s name to Faith Lutheran Church, 601 East Glendale Avenue, Appleton, WI, 54911.

His family would like to thank all of the devoted medical professionals who cared for Harry the past six months. These include the staff at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., the Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, Ariz. the Appleton Medical Center and Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton.
